Hurricane IRMA was the biggest and most costly storm in Florida history. The United Methodist Church is leading the way helping those impacted cope in the aftermath.
Hurricane Irma, for thousands of Floridians, remains a current event, creating a need for recovery teams all over the conference -- and not just for Irma. Teams are still assisting Hurricane Matthew survivors (fall 2016).
Working in five regions around the conference, UMCOR-funded Case managers, construction coordinators and volunteer coordinators are helping those who typically fall through the cracks: the uninsured, the under-insured, and those who simply don’t have the resources to recover on their own.
We anticipate this three- to five-year recovery will benefit more than 3900 households through referrals and home repairs.
